Esperonza's Review of Pets Empty Esperonza's Review of Pets

First off this is my first time doing a review so if I miss anything please don't hesitate to add it. I will do my best to cover it all. Smile

Features:

You can make cats, dogs, and finally horses!
There are loads of new features for creating each pet including a new way to add little details like a spot or even a star onto your pet. I think it makes for a great way to show people's creativity when creating their animals. It also makes sure that each pet you make is genuinely unique. You can customize everything from the coat, to the snout of each pet to make them as genuine or ridiculous looking as possible.

There are new objects for each pet, like a scratching post for the cats and a self cleaning litter box, a toy ball for the dogs and a crate for chew toys, and jumping and race training items for the horses.

You can also clean out the horse stalls and use their "ruminants" as fertilizer for your gardens.

There are no new careers, but you can train your horses in racing or jumping and compete them to win simoleans. The horse arena you do this at is a rabbit hole.

They also have some great dog and cat parks to take your pets to in order to meet more of those pets and become friends.

The animals are now controllable so you can make them do just about anything you want.

The new creature that came with pets was a unicorn which caused quit an uproar in the community as most people seemed to expect and want werewolves.

The unicorns have a few unique interactions. They can choose to bless, or curse, sims and pets. They can start a fire on a lot somewhere, they can bless or curse your growing plants, and they can teleport as well.

You can also train your dog or cat in the hunting skill, which is the only skill they can get.
The dogs find gems, rocks, or even fetch your sim a date when on a community lot.
The cats go out and pick up all sorts of creatures from birds to beetles and fish.

There is a new whoo hoo spot which is a giant pile of hay. It even comes with crazy banjo music while they are in there and it's quit funny to watch.

If you got the Limited Edition Pets Expansion you also get to download a pet store that is not included in the regular pack. It comes with a cash register and I believe a new pet bed for the cat and dogs as well.

There are new traits for the sims as well which are: Dog person, Cat person, Horse Person, and Animal lover. Each one conflicts with the other so you cannot have someone who is a dog, and cat person.

There is a new world called Appaloosa Plains which is more or less a very horse friendly community. It has lots with big yards, and beautiful scenery. It's a lovely place to watch wild horses roam or go out and find a wild bird and make it a pet.

There are several pets you can own as well that don't take up any space in your family. You can have a turtle, rodent, snake, or bird. Your cat, if trained in the hunting skill, can find them for you, or you can find them yourself in the wild and tame them. You can also buy a little cage for each type of pet and stock it yourself with one of the minor pets listed above. However more rare minor pets are only found out and about in the wild.

Deer and raccoons are now present in the game. You can see a deer run through your lot, or watch a raccoon knock over your garbage. Sims who are close to nature, in a way, may even get to pet a deer or raccoon, but you cannot make it a pet.

Feel like having fun with your cat in a new way? Now you can drive your cat crazy by playing with a laser pointer with it. It's quit entertaining to watch and the cat has a great time trying to catch it.

Cats also hide under beds as well which can make it difficult when it is bath time.

Pets do not get sick, nor are there any new diseases in the game, but your pet can get fleas if they stay outside to long. It's nothing a flea bath wont handle, however if you hang around your pet while it has fleas your sim will get fleas too. Nothing new comes from this other then you see black particles leaping off your sim or pet and there is a negative flea moodlet.

What I like about Pets:
First off, the horses. I have been dying for horses to enter into the Sim games and I was beyond thrilled when they finally did so. I love the breeding and how the genetics work out. I also love the interactions pets have with Sims as well. It's fun to let someone ride your horse then make the horse buck them off. I laugh like a villan every time. I also love the unicorn in pets because it's something new and different. I like the way they glow and having one in a family is just too neat in my opinion. Plus they are great for making my garden grow or cursing a sim I don't like.

What I don't like:
There really isn't much I don't like about this game. I do wish that dogs and cats could have jobs, that was always fun. I wish they learned more then one skill, which is the hunting skill. I would like the unicorns to have had more abilities as well. Maybe turning a sim into a toad or something from cursing them would have been entertaining. People seem to also be encountering a lot of glitches with graphics in this game which is too bad. Fluff issues come up a lot, as does crashing when trying to have a horse in a family. I feel bad for those people with issues like those as it's a great EP and a shame if they can't play it. The toddlers have no interactions with pets as they did in TS2 as well. I would have liked to have seen them hugging the pets, or petting them, or even eating food out of the pet bowls. All the pets can do is sniff toddlers or be mean and jump on them knocking them down.

Overall I give it a score of a 9 out of 10. I personally love this EP and I think it was worth every penny. I can't play my game without it and the pets do a great job keeping burglars away. Wink

Great review! I know you said there were no new careers, but technically, there is a new option - you can register as self-employed now. With pets, the only self-employed option is to be a horseman, which means you earn money by entering your horses in competitions. So, kind of a new job Smile

I had no idea about the woohoo thing! I've been so focused on playing with my horses and training them and my sim that I didn't even notice that! Now I have to try it out lol

I know this sounds weird, but I hate when the horses WooHoo in the stable, its scary! And I also have problems with the fur on pets, but its nothing that I can't handle, I still get just as much fun!
